Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am a new member on the forum, don't quite know my way round the site yet or know who many people are yet.

I used to attend Christ Church Pennington many years ago and came online tonight to find out about times of services etc as I am thinking about coming back.

I gather this is a fairly new site, it looks a lot different to the site I looked at a while ago anyway. Hope everyone gets used to the new layout soon and starts the ball rolling on the forums and more info is added to help us newbies find our way around and be involved with this online community.

Don't know about you but sometimes cell worship gets a little dry and needs a bit of creativity injecting into it. Our cell has been trying a new ideas to worship God in new ways and I wondered if other cells had any ideas we could all share. Our experiments so far have included:
Looking at the stars through a telescope to remind ourselves how mighty God is. We then read a psalm and sang Praise my soul the King of Heaven- an oldie but goldie of course.
Each person brought their favourite hymn (words and a CD) and and told us all why it mean't so much to them, then we sang them. This doesn't have to restricted to just hymns it could be songs in general. We even had some God related George Harrison.
We read a psalm over some beautiful classical music.
This week we're watching a DVD of instrumental worship songs with lovely countryside pictures on it. Mmmm worship chillout. Cool
We're going to run out of exciting ideas soon so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, my sister has just started work at a youth minister in truro and thus has to get to know people fairly quick. In their hurch they have a directory of photos and names that newbies can borrow for a week or so and get to be able to put names to faces.

Confession time: I have been at CCP for 3 months or so now and tones of people have said hello and told me their names a number of times but I'm HOPELESS and I mean HOPELESS with names. There are certain people who I dread one day will ask me to introduce them to DH (darling husband) and I won't be able to do it. It's SO EMBARRESSING!  Embarrassed Am a social moron at the best of times (talk too much nonesense and generally put my foot in it!) so for me it would be a great help.

What are people's opinions on such a thing? Would you let your face be featured? Would it help you?

I started on the fence until I saw how BT were handling it. they really shot themselves in the face because it was just a debate about jewellry to start with but then they went and said that the hijab etc was different. that's when i was like... hang on, your making ths a religious issue now and that argument re you can't hide a turban etc is flawed. If they had just stuck to the jewelrry issue then I would have let it be but as it is good old arch bish etc put enough pressure on them to sort it out.

On a tangent... I'm sure that the gov is getting sick of Rowan... I bet they thought he'd not be the interfering type but he's used his position in quite a number of cases now and spoken out about stuff I agree with. Am midly suprised and impressed!

ok in Isaiah 9 it talks about unto us a child is born etc and this seems to refer to the "and the virgin shall be with child and give borth to a son" passage in Isaiah 7. Is this right? Also, having posted elsewhere that the isiah 7 prophecy was about Jesus but also about a specific woman who had a child at the time as a sign to israel then... no one lese seemed to have heard this so am starting to believe I posted heresy! Am I wrong? We did it in a n advent study at my last church but don't have notes from it to look up. Huh

Good question Eric.

I have to say I am sort of on the fence on this one. I think if it is a clear case of discrimination against Christians then BA need to be fought against.

But I sort of see their point that she isn't being stopped from wearing the cross, just asking that it isn't worn over the uniform, which is true of any item of jewellery.

But I do think there is a case to answer which says that as a Christian she should be able to clearly identify herself as such alongside her muslim, etc, co-workers who are clearly identifying their faith through their attire.
