Here is Anna's latest prayer letter: Thank God for Anna's work
Hello everyone.
By the time you read this, we will have had a holiday, said goodbyes to Jo'burg, and be back in England!
Life has been as hectic as usual. Last week at the hospice we used our famous connections here! Some of our friends were in a very cheesy but successful band called "Swallow 15" (do Google them it's quite amusing!). Our friend Ryan plays with the son of a guy called Jonny Cleg and is pretty amazing on the guitar. Joe and Ryan agreed to come and play at the hospice with us on Tuesday.
It was so nice to have a change from the arts and crafts that we do with the patients. We sang songs and all joined in. Joe went around the rooms and sang to the patients who are really sick. Nicozula one of the young girls at the hospice recognised Joe and he sang his band's song Angel for her. I think it meant as much for Joe and Ryan as it did for the patients. Joe said that singing to these people who have no hope and helping them forget for a moment where they are, was better than performing for any crowd of 50,000 fans.
The school that we work at Akani has been a little wild recently. The head teacher has been away and there is a lack of control now. On Wednesday I was put on my own into a class room of 40 eight year olds who couldn't speak that much English and had to think on the spot of a lesson. Then later that day the fill in head teacher tried to keep the children back after school to punish them. There was a mass revolt with nearly 600 children shouting "home, home" and running at the locked doors!
The 2 pre schools that we work at are still going really well. Just seeing the children makes our week. We now get out of the car in Diepsloot and are mobbed by cheering children. It's really hard though to think that we will be leaving them all so soon. I feel quite guilty that until next summer there won't be another group to teach at the Pre School or just visit at the hospice.
On a lighter note it is finally time for our 2 week holiday! We are off to stay in the Strand in Cape Town. We are all so excited. After the Strand we are travelling on a back packer bus along the garden route and then flying from Durban back to Johannesburg. We have been religously applying Johnson's holiday skin in preparation!
See you back in the UK!
Lots of love Anna x x x
