Page 4 of 6 3. To live a christian life
We're not interested in Sunday Christians though. The church is often labelled as being full of hypocrites. Sadly there are some. What is more accurate is to say the church is full of sinners! Yes, it's true. Pennington Church is full, packed to the rafters, with sinful people. The great news is though, we're forgiven sinners. We know we've done wrong, we've asked Jesus to forgive us, and he has! We've now chosen to thank him by worshipping him and learning how to live our lives fully to please him during whole week.
Are any of us perfect? Er, no! are we trying each day to do better? You bet we are. But it's hard work sometimes. It's hard to work out which of our values Jesus would delight in, and which he'd challenge. so we teach what the Bible says because it is God's guidebook for life and how to live it. We try to preach in a way which is accessible and understandable to everyone and which makes real sense to us in how we live our lives in the real modern world. that way we hope that when you leave church on a sunday you are prepared and ready for how to please God with the rest of your life and be a real witness to God's love and goodness to those you meet, work with, live with and just bump into in the week.
Jesus challenged the religious folk of His day. he said it was not what God wanted for people to just observe the laws which made them go to church, or pay money, or pray loudly. Jesus showed us that what God really wants is something which the Bible calls a "broken and contrite" heart. That means a heart which honestly wants to know God more, to live our lives not as the world would have us live them but as God would, and love others as Jesus would have loved them - indeed, as Jesus still does love them, as He loves us.
Are you prepared and ready to commit to this? Are you prepared and ready to change the values by which you live your life? How you spend your money? The places you go to? The things you watch on telly? The words you use? all these things reflect what is going on in our heart and make up how we live our lives.
When we ask you if you will 'walk in the way of Christ' this is what we mean by it, not just being good, but being a born again Christian, living your life in detail how the Bible guides us to live. The world has its own set of morals, and God has something quite different in mind. Question is - can you accept His plan and His values, and ditch your own?
